Night Walk is a Google-sponsored (and probably developed) experience using Google Maps Street View, audio clips, and video/photography to create a digital “guided tour” of Marseilles, France. You click and pan to follow a preset route, discovering hotspots that provide information on local sights, and you can go off-course and follow some side paths. There’s a lot of fun stuff packed in here, including a pizzeria, a dance party (to Las Ketchup, of course), an alien kiddy pool, a bus service, a cocktail bar, a little stargazing dude, and some shady security guys. This is one I should revisit. I was super excited when it come out, and maybe didn’t give it a fair shake. You play as Thoreau at Walden - gardening, reading, exploring, and visiting friends. The environmental design is top notch, and I love the concept, but I couldn’t get into it. I can’t help but feel like this would have been more successful as either a full- fledged survival or adventure game, or a pure walking sim; as it stands, it felt like too little of either.Read more...
