Data Burst: Bonus Materials on the Set

This is a fun idea - a “sightseeing tour” of a location in an upcoming game called Data Burst. It’s really a one-location walking sim, with flavor text about the different locations in the game. I’m lukewarm on the aesthetic, but I wish more developers would create modes/products like this from their games.Read more...

Absolutely awesome walking sim/ambient weirdness. A series of vignettes, some of which you control and some that are guided. Great visuals and haunting atmosphere. Be warned, though - the whole experience takes 30-60 minutes and has no save system (intentionally, per the developer), so strap in.Read more...

Short for “The Rapture Is Here And You Will Be Forcibly Removed From Your Home,” this is one of the real classics of the walking sim genre. It received, for a game jam game, a lot of press at the time of its release, and still stands as one of the best examples of a “pure” walking sim. Basically, it’s the end of the world, and you have 20 minutes to wander around absorbing the ever-increasing sense of impending doom and listening to narration from the works of HP Lovecraft.Read more...

Really nicely done sci-fi exploration game with cool graphics and multiple zones. You explore a possibly hostile planet searching for the crew of a lost mission. Creepier than you would think, considering the bright graphics. There’s also a VR version for iOS that looks really cool.Read more...

One of Connor Sherlock’s more stylized walking sims. Nice graphics, and you can run fast and jump really high, which makes getting around lots of fun. Part of the Zones comp, which collects currently Patreon-only games.Read more...

One of Connor Sherlock’s best. A long, sometimes frustrating climb up a huge, temple-like building that leads to a sublime reveal. It’s worth the effort to get to the top.Read more...

My daughter calls this “Alien Supermarket” and I don’t have the heart to correct her. There’s a lot of fun stuff packed in here, including a pizzeria, a dance party (to Las Ketchup, of course), an alien kiddy pool, a bus service, a cocktail bar, a little stargazing dude, and some shady security guys. See if you can find the developer’s hidden head. Just awesome.Read more...
